- I've had one of the Vortex 486SLC 25MHz boards since they first came
- out. Its been pretty reliable, hardware wise the board is first rate.
- For running MS/DOS and Windows 3.x it works quite well and most games
- that want a 486 will play on it. So far I've not heard of anyone
- being able to get Win95 to run on a Vortex board though and OS/2 can be
- made to work but requires a separate serial mouse.
-
- The biggest disadvantage to the Bridgeboards is the lack of expansion
- slots. Three in a 2000, Two in a 4000 and One in a 3000 so you have
- to pick your expansions very carefully. For the cost of fitting out a
- useable Bridgeboard system with SVGA card, hard drive and memory
- you can probably pick up a turn-key PC system nowdays. And for a lot
- of the bloated PC software out nowdays, a 16 bit 486SLC just doesn't
- have the power to run it.
-
- Email if you want the full specs on the Vortex 486SLC board.
